Wrecks off the New Jersey coast

Recent Capital City Dive Club newsletters have give information on some wrecks that are close to shore. Here are a few of interest. There are additional links to other sites on on the main webpages.

BLUFFS WRECK

Located in the Bay Head, Ocean County. The wreck is located in just 20 feet of water 200 feet off the jetty in Bay Head. On the wreck divers will find steel hull plates, boilers and machinery. This wreck is from the 1800's and is worth exploring. You can still find many artifacts such as bottles and maybe even a few coins. The is a beach dive, so try and dive at slack tide for best visibility. The wreck has never been identified for its true name. Maybe you can find something to identify her. MALTA WRECK

Just south of Shark River inlet lies the wreck of the Malta. This ship ran aground in 1855. He cargo was empty petroleum barrels. She lies about 300 feet off the beach in 20 feet of water. You can make a  beach entry by lining up the light pole on 9th Avenue and swimming straight out parallel to the jetty. At low tide you can spot her rudder post protruding through the surface. For best results dive this wreck at slack high tide.
